Where Montessori-Inspired Education, Yoga, and Forest Therapy come together!

Jacalyn relocated from Westchester County to the Adirondack Park with her husband and two sons a few years ago to fulfill a lifelong dream of building a home for their family in a mutual relationship with the surrounding forest. After years of dedicated effort, Wild Type Acres has begun to take shape. With 50 acres to explore and a wealth of literature on permaculture, soil science and whole systems approaches to homesteading, they’ve embraced a homesteading lifestyle, and are having fun learning and growing as they go. They currently have dogs, chickens, ducks and many more plans in the works for the seasons ahead.

With over 20 years of experience working with young children in diverse environments—from upstate New York's small towns to urban Albany, San Francisco, Costa Rica's mountains, Westchester County, New York City, and her own backyard—Jacalyn deeply values the innate wisdom, light, and curiosity each child brings to the world.

Jacalyn holds a degree in Early Childhood Education, Montessori Certification, Children’s Yoga Certification, and a 200-hour Adult Yoga Certification. She has taught as a Montessori, preschool, kindergarten, children’s yoga, music, creative movement, ESL, and social skills teacher.

Inspired by her passion for supporting young children and families, her profound connection to the natural world, and her belief in nurturing a strong mind-body-heart connection, Jacalyn founded Wild Type Learning. Her understanding of the holistic needs of children has grown through her relationship with her sons.

She firmly believes that adults have much to learn from children and nature. In today's world, fostering strong relationships with children, nature, and yoga's lifelong benefits for mind, body, and heart connection is more critical than ever. These principles should guide how we educate our young children today.

Through Wild Type Learning, Jacalyn is eager to innovate ways to serve children, families, and educators, offering essential opportunities and skills to as many children as possible.
